Practitioners of the Medical Laboratory of Nigeria have been tasked to rise up to their responsibilities towards an enhanced and timely service delivery of result of medical laboratory science.
This charge was given at the opening of a seven-day annual scientific conference in Jos on Tuesday.
The conference is with the theme: “Quality management system in medical laboratory practice in Nigeria: Prospect and challenges.”
Hosted by the Plateau State chapter of the association of the Medical Scientists of Nigeria, the practitioners were charged to shun retrogressive tendencies and support those in authority of leadership to ensure quality transformation of hospitals.
The Chairman of the scientific committee, Surajudeen Junaid, appealed to government at all levels to ensure the implementation their scheme of services as approved by the National Council of Establishment since 2001.
He also called for laws prohibiting the legislation on computer and digital devices as a genetic tool, stressing that there are a lot of quacks that have infiltrated the state with computer and digital devices deceiving people with such devices in worship centres and other public places, claiming that the devices can make diagnosis every disease.
“The devices are not approved by the government of Nigeria for diagnostic purposes and are never used in any government hospital for diagnosis purposes,” Junaid said.
He however stated that conference is designed to update members with the current global best practices in medical laboratory science.
The Chief Medical Director of the Jos University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Edmond Banwat, and the Commissioner in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Fom Dakwak, both pledged their commitment and determination to encourage the association to excel to greatness.
