The Kwara State Government will on Saturday (today) begin the rehabilitation of the Eiyenkorin-Okolowo portion of the Ilorin-Jebba Road.
The Kwara State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya, who announced this in a statement, said the state government decided to intervene on the federal facility in view of the hardship experienced by motorists and commuters between Eiyenkorin and Okolowo daily.
The Commissioner added that heavy duty vehicles were also diverting to Ilorin metropolis roads on account of the poor state of the federal facility, thus damaging inner city roads which were constructed for lighter vehicles.
Yahaya said the state government’s rehabilitation of Eiyenkorin-Okolowo is expected to be completed next Tuesday, after which it will begin the repair of Ilorin township roads damaged by the traffic of trailers and tankers.
He warned drivers of heavy duty vehicles to stay away from Ilorin metropolis roads once the rehabilitation of Eiyenkorin-Okolowo Road is completed and the repair of affected Ilorin city roads commences next week.
