The Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, has described the Best Governor Award in Agriculture Development conferred on him by the Business Day newspaper as a motivation to further drive agriculture beyond the prevailing subsistence level in the state in order to make it a major revenue earner.
The governor gave this indication in an interview with journalists in his office after receiving the award from his Senior Special
Assistant on Media and Communications, Dr. Femi Akorede, who represented him at the occasion.
According to Ahmed, the award also represented a recognition of government’s efforts at turning the state into an agricultural hub in the West Africa sub region.
Ahmed added that his administration is vigorously pursuing the value added agenda in agriculture through its Agriculture Development
Masterplan to situate agriculture as a business rather than just a means of providing food for the people.
This, he noted, will not only transform agriculture into providing jobs for the youth but the state as food basket of the nation and indeed the continent, given its location and other natural advantages.
