The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Agboola Oshodi Glover, has affirmed that the Saturday’s local government election in the state was free, fair and credible.
The commissioner said this while speaking with newsmen in Share, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
According to Glover, there had not been any report of violence in any of the polling stations across the state.
Meanwhile, the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has advised contestants of the election in the state to practice politics of inclusion if they are victorious in their respective council areas.
Ahmed they should add value to local government administration through their wealth of experience and ensure that people at grass root level feel the dividends of democracy in order to justify the confidence their people repose in them.
Ahmed gave the advice in his home town, Share, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, shortly after casting his vote at Share Ward 1 polling boot, Alebiopan compound, Share.
Ahmed urged whoever emerges in the election to see it as part of nation building and magnanimity in victory so as to collectively move the state to the next level.
He thanked God for the peaceful way and manner the election was conducted across the state.
“From what I have seen, I want to thank God for today because we have witnessed every process of the election going on accordingly and timely and most importantly peacefully,” he said.
Ahmed attributed the absence of strong opposition in the election to people’s believe in the present administration in the state.
He added: “We are running a true democracy in the state and in an ideal democratic setting, people are free to do things the way they want it.
“The lack of opposition here in Kwara is a reflection of people’s trust and confidence in our government.”
