The Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada, has secured a spot for the state-owned football club, Kogi United, to play in the Nigeria National League next season.
In his determination to re-position football in the state, Governor Wada bought a Nigeria National League slot for Kogi United who got relegated to the Nigeria National League after a woeful 2012/2013 season.
While commending the governor, the Chairman, Kogi United FC, Mallam Abdul Adama, expressed his joy and appreciation to Wada for his passionate will and resolve to improve the fortune of waning sports in the state.
Adama said: “We are glad to have Captain Idris Wada as the state governor.
“The NNL slot procurement for Kogi United portrayed Captain Wada’s resolve to reform sports in the state, most importantly football.
“He is also acting in fulfilment of his electoral promises to empower youths.
“I am sure the upcoming season for Kogi United and Confluence Queens will bring smiles to the faces of their numerous fans.
“I believe the much anticipated transformation of the clubs will happen under Captain Idris Wada.”
Mallam Adama said that the decision of the governor to acquire a place in the NNL for Kogi United was to transform sports in Kogi State, promote the image of the state and ensure the club participates among top clubs in the country.
