Kogi Chief Judge moves to swear-in speaker as thugs force change of venue

In complying with the directive of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke, the Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Nasir A, Ajanah, made to swear-in the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Bello.

But thugs, said to be loyal to the former state Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, prevented the ceremony from holding at the Government House.

Sources told The Eagle Online that Ajanah had gone with the speaker to the Government House for the swearing-in, but met Idris who resisted.

Idris had earlier got the President of the state’s Customary Court, Ibrahim Shaibu, to swear-in the winner of the last gubernatorial election in the state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Captain Idris Wada, after Ajanah refused on the grounds that he was yet to study the judgment.

It was learnt that a member of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Friday Makama, representing Igale-Mela/Odolu State Constituency, led those who disrupted the swearing-in of the speaker.

Security details attached to both the Chief Judge and the speaker, it was learnt, ferried both men to safety.

As at press time, The Eagle Online was told that the swearing-in ceremony for the speaker was about commencing at the Federal High Court Complex, Lokoja, the state capital.
