The Kogi House of Assembly on Thursday passed into law N128.96 billion as the state’s 2014 budget.
The budget was passed with slight increase in the Appropriation Bill presented in December 2013 by the state Governor, Captain Idris Wada.
The House increased the budget from N128.72 billion presented by Wada to N128.96 billion.
Addressing House members after the third and final reading of the bill at the floor of the House, the Speaker, Hon. Momoh-Jimoh Lawal, commended the governor for presenting a balanced budget.
A breakdown of the budget earlier presented to the House indicated that N58.70 billion was earmarked for recurrent expenditure and N70.02 billion for capital projects.
Earlier in his presentation, Hon. Gabriel Daudu, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance, Appropriation and Budget Monitoring, said that his committee made provisions for some sectors not captured in the budget.
According to Daudu, the Works and Transport Ministry has been allocated N50 million and Ministry for Rural Development, N50 million.
He said others included Ministry of Water Resources, N10 million; House of Assembly, N75 million; and the Ministries of Commerce, Finance and Cooperatives, collectively allocated N50 million.
According to Daudu, the budgetary increase is also to enable some ministries and parastatals meet the requirement of their overhead costs.
The committee observed that enough funds were not released to ministries, parastatals, departments and agencies, for the executions of their projects in 2013, and called for improvement in 2014.
