The man who allegedly attacked and killed human rights activist, Barrister Kunle Fadipe, was said to have overpowered four persons, killed the activist, then feigned insanity.
The activist’s sister-in-law, Abiola Owolabi, explained that the murderer was so powerful that he did not give in to the several objects smashed on him.
Owolabi said: “We smashed a stool and a UPS on his head so that he could release the barrister.
“He never felt the impact at all.
“It was when the security guards in the Estate overpowered him that we realized four of us were stabbed.
“We cried for help but no neighbours came to assist us.
“We were unable to use his car because the key to the main gate could not be found.
“Before we could get a cab to a hospital, he had lost a lot of blood.”
Owolabi added that the assailant, after being arrested, began to pretend to be insane, claiming that he had been wandering about.
One of Fadipe’s children, Folatunmise, said: “Father’s death was horrible and painful but we take it as the God’s wish.
“Irrespective of his disastrous end, I intend to be a lawyer to carry on the course he was fighting.”
Brother to the deceased, Olaleye Fadidpe, revealed that police have commenced investigation into the murder, stressing that he hoped that justice would prevail.
Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), who was at the deceased’s home to express his condolences, said that the activist was fearless and an upright person.
According to Falana, the poor medical services in the country, cum doctors’ strike contributed to Fadipe’s untimely death.
His words: “Kunle dedicated his entire life to the struggle for human rights and social justice.
“He fought to make Nigeria safe only for him to be brutally assassinated for no just course.
“Nigeria will miss Kunle dearly.
“Whichever way you look at it, you cannot but question the integrity of society.
“Kunle risked his life to save the lives of others.
“Unfortunately, nobody came to his aid.
“Besides, if the society is organised – there is electricity, doctors are not on strike and our hospitals are well equipped – he might not have died.
“In short, he died as a victim of a dysfunctional state.”
