Olympic Milk from the stable of Nutricima is sponsoring the first ever Community Games contest featuring 10 Lagos communities.
Ketu led the Group A table in football by goals difference (+6) though it tied four points each with Surulere, Bariga and Ikorodu in Group A.
Ajegunle led the Group B table with six points from two matches followed by Agege and Mushin.
Ketu also led the table in table tennis with a clean sweep of 12 points from its four games followed by Obalende and Ikorodu with nine points each.
For Group B, Agege was the dominant team in table tennis with 18 points from six games, followed by Ajegunle with nine points from six games.
Surulere in Group A and Orile in Group B showed strength in draught with more wins than their opponents.
Surulere has 15 points from winning five of its seven games, while Orile garnered 16 points from winning five, losing one and drawing two of its games.
Group A teams are Ketu, Surulere, Bariga, Ikorodu and Obalende while Communities in Group B are Ajegunle, Agege, Orile, Oshodi and Mushin.
Meanwhile, Team Mushin on Sunday defeated the team from Orile Agege 1-0 in football while securing a walk over in tennis as the seventh day of the ongoing Community Games powered by Olympic Milk ended at the Eko Boys High School Mushin.
In an earlier match, Team Ikorodu pipped Obalende 1-0 in the football tournament that has been the focal point of the three-game first ever Community Games tournament.
It has been one week of intense competition among 10 communities in Lagos with the football and draught matches drawing sizeable crowds and interest.
The ten competing teams would play their last group matches in the first two days of the week to determine who moves on to the knockout stages of the competition.
Coach Akinde Samuel of the winning Team Mushin was very exultant at the victory, as Team Mushin had lost its previous matches 2-3 against Team Ajegunle and 0-1 to Team Agege.
Mushin next faces Oshodi and the coach is positive his team would defeat their Oshodi opponents. His optimism stems from their drubbing of Oshodi earlier Sunday in the J-League contest amongst local governments in Lagos. Akande stated, “If we should win our last match, I think there is probability of our moving forward.”
The coach thanked Nutricima Limited for the Community Games initiative, noting, “If we had this kind of tournaments before now, our players would have been exposed and discovered.”
Team Mushin is composed of mainly uner-21 players. The coach said they had been together for about two years, making for cohesion, though most of the players would have to move on as they are approaching 21 years.
Matches continue on Monday at Jubril Martins School Iponri.
