Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, has charged the country’s U20 team to do the nation proud with victory in their opening African Youth Championship game against Mali on Sunday in Oran, Algeria.
Keshi called the Flying Eagles on Saturday evening and spoke to skipper Abduljaleel Ajagun.
Ajagun said: “Coach Keshi asked us to go and do Nigeria proud.
“He said we should play for our country with pride and confidence.
“He also said he believes in us and he will watching us on Sunday.”
The ‘Big Boss’ also spoke to Assistant Coach Yakubu Maidaji, who was his teammate in the Flying Eagles in the late 70s, as well as goalkeeper trainer Aloy Agu, who played with the former Eagles skipper for the country in the 90s.
Keshi has fully supported the country’s quest to successfully defend the AYC trophy they won two years ago in South Africa.
He has been closely monitoring the team since they moved into a training camp in Tunisia prior to the championship.
He had spoken with the team before the call on Saturday.
The Flying Eagles spent an hour at the match venue for Sunday’s showdown against Mali on Saturday evening.
The training was watched by Nigerian Ambassador to Algeria, Haruna Ginsau, who, again, challenged the team to fly highest on Sunday inside the refurbished Parc Municipal in Oran.
