Next-door neigbours Benin will take on Nigeria for a place in next year’s CHAN in Kenya after they beat Togo on penalties in Cotonou on Sunday.
Earlier reports had suggested Togo advanced ahead of Benin, but it has now been confirmed hosts Benin won 7-6 on penalties after aggregate scores stood at 2-2 as today’s eliminator in Cotonou also ended in a 1-1 draw, like was the case in Lome a week ago.
Benin will thus welcome the CHAN Eagles to Cotonou on August 11, with the return leg match in Kano a week later and the overall winners advancing to Kenya 2018.
The Nigerian team will open camp for the first time on Monday in Kano.
