The Kebbi State Fire Service Department has recorded 46 fire incidents which resulted in the loss of seven lives from January to date, the Director of the department, Alhaji Bello Zagga said on Thursday.
Briefing journalists in Birnin Kebbi, Zagga, said “From January to April 2019, we have recorded 46 fire incidents and four deaths within the period”.
He advised residents in the state to observe utmost care in handling electrical appliances and other inflammable items to prevent further fire outbreak.
He said: “Most of the fire incidents we have recorded were as a result of electrical appliances, electricity up-surge or improper use of inflammable items.”
He, however, decried lack of functional vehicles for quick respond to distress calls.
He said: “The fire department is only managing three old trucks out of nine trucks, with the remaining six grounded.’’
The officer appealed with the state government to come to the aid of the service by providing all the necessary equipment to save lives and property.
