The Kebbi State House of Assembly on Friday passed a resolution to investigate the N28 billion airport contract awarded by the immediate past Governor of the state, Alhaji Sa’idu Dakingari.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the motion to commence investigation into the project followed the discovery on Tuesday of the absence of fire fighting equipment at the airport.
NAN learnt that the absence of the equipment almost stalled the maiden airlift of Hajj pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
The plenary, which was presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Samaila Abdulmumin, passed the resolution in Birnin Kebbi.
The motion was moved by Alhaji Buhari Aleiro (APC-Aleiro).
Aleiro said he was moving the motion for the probe due to complaints in various quarters and the absence of fire fighting equipment.
The motion was seconded by Abdul Wasiu Andarai (APC-Maiyama) and supported by Umar Sarkin Shanu (APC-Birnin Kebbi North).
Members of the House said all officials responsible or involved in the project must appear before a special investigation committee set up for the probe.
