The Kano State Government has awarded N1billion contract for the completion of road construction in some areas of the state to end the hardship being faced by motorists.
The Commissioner for Works, Housing, Land and Regional Planning, Malam Aminu Aliyu, disclosed this while inspecting the ongoing road construction in Kumbotso and Bebeji Local Government Areas of the state.
Aliyu said this in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed and made available to newsmen in Kano on Tuesday.
He said the roads include Gidan Maza western bye-pass in Kumbotso, and Gwarmai-Kofa to Bebeji road in Bebeji Local Government Area of the state.
He said: “The construction of the roads is about 14 kilometres.
‘‘I urge the contractors to comply with the terms of the contract to complete it as scheduled.’’
Earlier, the Executive Chairman, Bebeji Local Government Area, Alhaji Ali Namadi, commended the state government for awarding the contract.
He urged residents of the areas to give the contractors all the necessary support to ensure speedy completion of the project.
Namadi said: “The road was earlier constructed by a philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata in 1982, but now need to be reconstructed due to its bad condition.’’
