Rilwanu Malikawa of Radio Kano has been elected as the new Chairman of the Kano State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria.
Malikawa, who is the Media Officer of Kano Pillars Football Club, was elected unopposed along with other members of the new executives on Tuesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Center in Kano.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Comrade Aminu Kwaru, while announcing the election results, said that they have met all conditions as spelt out in the constitution of the association and NUJ.
Other members elected in the well-attended election that was supervised by a National Officer, Zakari Jibo, are: Musbahu Yangurasa of Rahma Radio as Vice Chairman and Oladimeji Abdulgafar as Assistant Secretary.
Also elected are: Zaharadeen Saleh of Radio Nigeria Pyramid FM, treasurer and Abubakar Kwaru of Abubakar Rimi Television as Financial Secretary.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee commended the executives and all SWAN members for their support and understanding throughout the process of the election.
The Supervisor, Jibo Zakari, charged the new executives to discharge their duties with transparency and fear of God.
In his acceptance speech, Malikawa said he would concentrate on periodic inter media games so as to promote unity among journalists in the state.
He also pledged to work with NUJ in the state and prioritise members welfare.
The Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association Kano state chapter, Ibrahim Muktar, gave the new members oath of office.
