The Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the State Executive Council have approved the renaming of Northwest University Kano to Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano.
The decision was said to have been unanimously agreed by the SEC during an extraordinary meeting of the council late on Monday night to immortalize the late Danmasanin Kano due to his immense contributions to the development of Kano, Arewa and Nigeria at large.
The Council also approved the renaming of Dawaki Road in Kano, where the residence of Sule is located, to Yusuf Maitama Sule Road, while the current Yusuf Maitama Sule Link Road has been renamed Jafaru Dan Mallam Link Road.
The decisions were reached after extensive deliberation at the extraordinary Council meeting and taking into account people’s calls from within and outaide Kano for the state government to honour Sule since his demise.
Governor Ganduje’s administration, a statement said, is determined to honour sons and daughters of Kano State who have sacrificed their lives for the development of the state.
