Kano State Task force Committee on Sanitation has given Sharada Market a 10-day ultimatum to clear the “disgusting” animal wastes littering the market.
The Acting Chairman of the committee and the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Tukur Getso, gave the order on Friday when the committee supervised the monthly environmental sanitation for workplaces, markets and motor parks.
Getso also ordered perishable goods traders to avoid the habit of selling their products on the floor rather they should improve their businesses by building small stalls to ensure hygiene.
“We gave the market traders an ultimatum and we shall return to check compliance because this is rainy season and they must ensure proper hygiene in and outside the market,” Getso said.
The committee further ordered the chicken traders in the market to construct a public convenience to avoid open defecation in the market.
The committee also monitored the state Ministry of Education and commended the cleanliness around the ministry, urging other government agencies and ministries to emulate the ministry.
NAN reports that the task force committee on sanitation in Kano has given a 10-day ultimatum to Sharada market to clean its premises and construct a public convenience.
