Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has expressed sadness over Thursday’s gas explosion at an industrial complex in Nnewi, Anambra State.
Kalu described the development as a colossal loss to the nation.
According to Kalu, the huge loss of lives is worrisome and painful.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Kunle Oyewumi, Kalu said: “The scores of lives lost in the unfortunate gas explosion in Nnewi is devastating and shocking.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the deceased at this sorrowful moment.
“May God rest the the souls of the victims.”
The former governor, while commiserating with the government and people of Anambra State, prayed God to give the victims’ families the fortitude to bear the big losses.
He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those hospitalized.
Similarly, Kalu also condoled with the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Barkindo Musdafa, over the death of his mother, Hajiya Adda Gombeji, who passed on at 87.
According to Kalu, the roles of a mother cannot be overemphasized in the life of a child.
Kalu urged the paramount ruler to take solace in the fact that his mother left behind a good legacy for her family members to uphold.
While sympathizing with the government and people of Adamawa State and the Adamawa Emirate Council, he prayed God to grant the deceased peaceful rest.
In another development, Kalu equally empathized with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, who lost his mother, Madam Alice Emefiele, at 94.
Kalu acknowledged the significant roles a mother plays in the family.
While condoling with the Emefiele family, he urged them to sustain the exemplary qualities of their matriarch.
The former governor prayed God to grant the departed soul eternal rest and also give the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
