Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, and the Progressive Peoples Alliance have joined other prominent Nigerians in mourning the passage of late veteran actor, Justus Esiri.
Kalu, in a statement on Thursday by his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewunmi, said that Esiri has left a footprint time cannot wipe away.
He was quoted as having said in the statement: “There is no doubt that his memory will live with us for a very long time.
“Not with the series on The Village Headmaster and his participation in the making of quality Nollywood movies.
“Even at 70 and shortly before he died, he was still actively involved in movies that had deep lessons to teach all Nigerians.
“He will sure be sorely missed.”
Kalu condoled with the family of the late Esiri and prayed for the repose of his soul.
The PPA in a statement by its National chairman, Chief Sam Nkire, described the death of the celebrated actor as a great loss to the entertainment world.
According to Nkire, who described Esiri as a personal friend of many decades, “Nigeria in particular has lost one of the finest entertainers in Africa.”
Nkire said Esiri’s fans, friends and family should take solace in the fact he lived a fulfilled life and touched many lives through his chosen profession.
The PPA national chairman said though himself and Esiri did not have much in common in terms of professional calling, they lately found common ground in many areas such as religion.
He said Esiri would be missed for his jokes, humility and goodness.
