A former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has denied donating N1 million to some Igbo men who converted from Christianity to Islam.
The report, carried by Leadership newspaper on Saturday, November 16, credited Kalu with donating N1 million at the occasion, which reportedly took place at the National Mosque, Abuja.
However, Kalu denied ever making such a donation.
He said he was not even at the occasion.
A statement by his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewumi, described the report as the figment of the imagination of the reporter.
Oyewumi said Kalu was not at the event and did not send any representative.
He advised newsmen to always crosscheck their facts before publishing, especially when it concerns issues such as religion, which occupies a very strong position in the scheme of things in the country.
