A former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has decried the spate of kidnapping and killing across the country.
Kalu said these are gradually becoming cultures in Nigeria and the authorities are yet to nip the menaces in the bud.
In a statement issued by Rubby Obinna of the Orji Uzor Kalu Media Centre, Abuja, Kalu, who spoke on March 23, 2016 from the United States of America where he is on a business trip, said the killings in the Ogba area of Rivers State by suspected street cultists where un-confirmed report has it that over 200 lives have been lost within a short period of time the insurrection started among the youths in the area, to the Agatu massacre in Benue State by apparent Fulani herdsmen, to similar killings in Enugu State where a gruesome picture of a man supposedly killed by herdsmen is spiraling on the social media and many others, show that humankind in the country is headed for insanely trade of killing and kidnapping fellow human beings.
Kalu lamented that sustaining peace in Nigeria is one of the top challenges facing the country where ethnic divisions is taking over nationalism and the spirit of compatriotism.
He enthused that the news of killings and the associated kidnappings in the country is gradually tainting the image of the country no matter the efforts of the successive governments fighting to curb the situations.
The business mogul said there could be more to the killings and kidnappings in the country beyond the tag that it’s “unemployment, poverty, religion, political issues, quest for prosperity and so on” that are the causative factors.
Kalu wept that the novel macabre-businesses that some unscrupulous elements think they have found are to kidnap and kill fellow human beings for whatever reason that oozes with odious sensibility and are driving investors away thereby pilfering on the economy and universal good of the country.
Dr. Kalu, therefore, has commended some countries like Chad, Cameroon and United States of America that have come to form alliance to aid Nigeria against the bedlams.
He added that upon all the anti-killings and anti-kidnapping laws, which were made by the different states in the country, yet, news of killings and kidnappings are being heard on a daily basis.
Hence, Kalu called on the governors across the country and Federal Government to put every mercenary in place to making sure that pummeling of kidnapping and diverse unlawful killing practice in the country is achieved.
