The Head Coach of Kaduna United FC, Taiye Yusuf, says he is confident that his team will regain promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League after this season.
Yusuf, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Kaduna, hinged his hope on his players’ improved performances in the Nigeria National League.
He told the NAN that the club targeted this season to work hard, play and gain promotion into the professional league.
He added that the club, run by the Kaduna State Government, had been fortified with the signing on of new players.
He said: “As it stands, Kaduna United is topping the table in Group 1A as a result of superior goal difference.
“We hope to win our next match at the Kano Pillars Stadium in Sabon Gari, Kano against Shekarau Babes in the NNL Week 3 fixtures.
“Kaduna United have scored six goals in the last two matches played and target to go to Kano and win to maintain the top spot.
“We’re training hard to win our matches to qualify among the top four clubs and be promoted to play in the NPFL.
“We made the best recruitment and its paying off instantly judging by victories in the matches played so far.”
The coach, who regretted that the club could not secure promotion due to underperformance last year, hoped that they would be promoted this season.
Yusuf said: “Our players have been motivated and they are really training hard to win their matches.
“We will be happy if we are promoted this season to play in higher competitions at which we can also be picked to represent our country.”
NAN reports that club, which won the FA Cup in 2010, was relegated from the NPFL in 2007, but won promotion just one year later.
Kaduna United has made only one CAF Confederation Cup appearance, reaching the quarter-finals stage in 2011.
It was again relegated afterwards.
