World heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is set to sign a new three-year deal with Matchroom worth £100 million, according to reports.
The 29-year-old’s current deal with the promotional company is set to expire in November, leading to speculation he could join another promoter.
But, according to The Sun, the father-and-son duo of Barry and Eddie Hearn are confident their star man will sign a new deal.
Matchroom has just signed a huge $1 billion deal with sports streaming company DAZN, who possess a bigger budget than American giants HBO and Showtime combined.
And despite the lures of other promotional companies, Joshua looks set to stick with the company who gave him his professional debut back in 2013.
Barry Hearn explained: “Anthony is an astute young man and he knows what Matchroom has to offer him when his contract runs out in November.
“To start with, Anthony is signed to the biggest and best promotional company in the world. We have the financial clout to make sure the big fights can go ahead at the big venues.
“We also have an exclusive contract with Sky Sports to screen quality boxing. There is also Sky Box Office.
“On top of all that, Anthony is also a friend.
“If he went, it would be like someone in the family leaving.
“No one at Matchroom is putting Anthony under pressure — but I am as confident as anyone can be in boxing.”
Joshua was named at No 5 in the Sunday Times richest young sportsmen list, with earnings of £35 million — up £20 million from last year — including a staggering £18 million purse for defending his titles against Joseph Parker in March.
