Anthony Joshua is stepping it up in the gym as he prepares to defend his titles against Russian Alexander Povetkin at Wembley next month.
The 28-year-old’s personal trainer, Jamie Reynolds, took an Instagram video of the pair working on exercise bikes in the gym.
Reynolds added a comment to the post saying: “This ain’t no joke. We’re out here working.”
The world heavyweight champion was working up a sweat as he ramps up his training schedule eight weeks out from the bout.
He has done his homework on Povetkin and has been sparring men of similar stature to prepare him for the test.
Come the fight, Joshua will enjoy a significant height and reach advantage and it has been predicted that it could influence his 38-year-old rival to go for the body.
Despite recently admitting he is looking past his Russian adversary towards a match-up with Deontay Wilder, it seems Joshua isn’t completely underestimating his opponent.
The Brit however, has already vowed to “walk through” Povetkin in September and admitted he is looking to bigger names and fights next year.
He was left frustrated after negotiations with WBC kingpin Wilder broke down earlier this summer, but is still targeting a clash with the American in April, which he believes is ‘the best fight in the division’.
However, Frank Warren revealed this week Tyson Fury is in advanced talks with Wilder’s representatives for a fight this December and is confident of securing a deal.
Promoter Eddie Hearn is exploring the possibility of Oleksandr Usyk stepping up to face Joshua.
He is in discussions to co-promote the undisputed cruiserweight and it has now emerged that a fight against Joshua could happen as early as April.
