President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday promised to generate power from Dadin-Kowa Dam in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State, in addition to assisting farmers, if re-elected.
Jonathan made the pledge when he visited the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar, in his palace in Gombe.
He said: “We are looking at Dadin-Kowa Dam for provision of steady power supply to Gombe State, in addition to assisting farmers in the state.”
He said Federal Government’s commitment to farmers in the state could be seen from the provision of fertiliser and other inputs directly to them through the e-wallet system.
Jonathan urged youths in the state to key in to the commercial farming system.
“I also re-assure you that this government will continue to work with the people of Gombe State on how we can continue to move our country forward and move the state forward,” he said.
He said that they were at the Emir’s palace to seek for royal blessing and prayers before embarking on their re-election campaign rally in the state.
The President called for special prayers for the late Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar.
In his remarks, the Emir of Gombe, Shehu-Abubakar, thanked the President for his contribution to the development of the state.
Shehu-Abubakar noted some of the President’s efforts to include establishment of the Federal University in the state, upgrading of the Federal Medical Centre to Federal Teaching Hospital among other projects.
He called on Gombe State people, especially the politicians, to maintain the peace and tranquillity in the country, before, during and after the general elections for more development.
He added: “As you go round on your campaigns, Mr. President, we are praying for your safety.
“May Allah give us peace in our country, May Allah guide and protect all our leaders.”
Earlier, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, had said the purpose of their visit was to present Jonathan and his deputy, Namadi Sambo, for their re-election campaign.
Muazu said in Jonathan’s efforts to see traditional rulers contribute their quota to the development of the country, they would be given constitutional rights, if re-elected.
