President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has joined the list of prominent Nigerians who have mourned the former President General of the Urhobo Progress Union, His Royal Highness, Chief Benjamin Okumagba, the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom.
Okumagba died at 83.
In a statement by his spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, Jonathan recalled Okumagba’s committed efforts as a foremost campaigner and champion of Urhobo rights, noting that he was, in addition, a nationalist who believed in the unity of Nigeria and who used his personal resources to wage a relentless battle for justice and fairplay among our various ethnic nationalities.
Jonathan added that the late Okumagba, a businessman and a trained nurse, lived a pious and healthy life that is worthy of emulation and commendation.
The President, while commiserating with the government and people of Delta State in general and members of Okumagba family in particular, prayed that God Almighty will comfort the bereaved and grant the soul of the departed elder statesman, peaceful repose.
