The Jigawa chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party has adopted President Muhammadu Buhari as its sole candidate in the forthcoming Presidential elections.
Dr Shamsuddeen Aujara, PRP’s Deputy Governorship Candidate in the state, disclosed this in a statement in Dutse on Wednesday.
Aujara said the party and its members were satiafied with the policies and administrative style of the All Progressive Congress-led government at the centre.
He said: “Although in PRP we don’t have a presidential candidate, but we spread our wings to different political positions.
“However, we cannot leave our respected followers and other Nigerians who genuinely believe in progressive change in the vacuum.
“On this, our stand with the presidential election is to adopt and rally behind the APC candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari as our sole candidate.
“We are convinced by the policies and administrative style of the APC-led government at the centre. And apart from the presidential election, the PRP will remain firm, strong and active.”
He advised people of the state to come out en mass and vote in a peaceful manner in the February 23 elections.
He said: “We ask the good people of Jigawa to come out en mass and vote in a peaceful manner, respect rules and regulations and accept the elections’ outcome.”
According to him, the party has candidates for various positions at national and state levels that can help in effecting meaningful change.
He said: “The emergence of Capt. Ahmed Adamu Kaugama (Rtd) as governorship candidate of PRP in Jigawa and myself Dr Shamsuddeen Aujara as his running mate is the best combination that can transform our dear state.”
He further advised Nigerians not to be discouraged by the postponement of elections and come out massively to exercise their civic right on the new dates.
He said: “It is very sad that the Independent National Electoral Commission postponed last week’s elections just few hours to its commencement.
“Consequently, the postponement of the elections deeply affected Jigawa state economy in particular and Nigeria in general.
“Although we saw reasons with the INEC’s action, but it demonstrated how unprepared the commission was.
“And I hope the INEC will utilise the week extension to carefully review its activities, make concrete arrangements and conduct free, fair and credible elections.
“I call on all Nigerians not to be discouraged by the postponement of the elections and come out massively on February 23 and March 9 to exercise their electoral rights.”
