The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, whose tenure of office ends on Tuesday, has concluded plans to return to the classroom after leaving office.
Jega is expected to bow out of office as INEC Chairman on June 30, having spent a term of five years in office.
The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Kayode Idowu, confirmed this at the weekend in Abuja.
Idowu explained that Jega will be returning to the university when he retires from INEC.
Prof. Jega was at the Bayero University Kano, where he served as vice chancellor before his appointment as INEC Chairman in 2010.
The outgoing INEC Chairman had, after the general elections, publicly declared that he was not interested in staying in office for a second term.
Idowu pointed out that no new offer has been made to him (Jega) by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government for a second term in office.
The INEC Chairman is expected to bow out of office on Tuesday along with six National Commissioners who were sworn into office the same day with him by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
