The new Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Simon Bako Lalong, has been sworn-in at the Rwampam Township Stadium in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
The was sworn-in by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Pius Damulak.
At the ceremony, the immediate past Governor of the state, Jonah David Jang, was conspicuously absent.
The former Deputy Governor of the state, Ambassador Ignitus Datong Lonjan; and the Chairman of the Transition Committee of the state government, Prof. Shedrack Best, stood in for Jang.
This was contrary to the statement of Jang on Wednesday that he would be meeting Lalong for the first time at the inauguration.
Earlier, Prof. Sony Tyoden took his oath of office as the Deputy Governor of the state.
The ceremony was witnessed by a former Deputy President of the Senate, Alhaji Ibrahim Nasiru Mantu; former Governor of the state, Senator Joshua Dariye; former Minister, Dame Pauline Tallen; and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Jeremiah Useni, among others.
The venue of the inauguration was filled to capacity.
Lalong remains the longest serving Speaker in the Plateau State House of Assembly.
