Although these are the most award-winning and popular actresses in Africa, are they regarded as the best in the eyes of the general public?
This is the question being asked by the mass opinion, online platform: TheRanking.com, which, true to its democratic standards, is choosing the users’ favourite by means of a survey in which nearly 1,500 people have taken part.
The Ghanaian, Jackie Appiah, and the Nigerian actress and singer, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, are direct rivals for the number one spot in the preferences of African fans.
Indeed, between them, they have accounted for 50 per cent of the votes.
Other award gala favourites such as Mercy Johnson, Genevieve Nnaji, Patience Ozokwor and Tonto Dikeh are also among those chosen by the African public as the best of the continent’s actresses.
Oscar winners way down on the contenders’ list
The best supporting actress Oscar winner, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron, a statuette holder in the best actress category, are way down the voters’ preferences, languishing as they are at the bottom of the ranking.
