An eleven-man executive has emerged to run the affairs of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Minna Depot of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
The depot services Niger and Kebbi States.
The new executive will be in office for five years.
Speaking shortly after the election, which took place at the IPMAN office, Minna depot, along the Minna-Suleja Road, Paggo, the new Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Erena, assured Nigerians of uninterrupted distribution of petroleum products in parts of the state.
The new IPMAN state chairman, who is the Director, E. E. Erena Oil Nigeria Limited, described the Minna depot as the most peaceful when compared to other states, adding that the depot feeds petroleum products’ consumers in Niger and Kebbi States.
Erena exonerated IPMAN from blames over the lingering petroleum products scarcity in some parts of the country, pointing out that marketers only distributes products when supplied to it by Federal Government agencies.
According to him: “I don’t blame Nigerians for blaming anybody linked with the distribution of petroleum products because they do not know the way all the related organs work.
“IPMAN can’t distribute water.
“We distribute petroleum products when the NNPC supplies to depots.”
The new IPMAN leadership also expressed preparedness to evolve strategies that would end petroleum products scarcity within the states under the Minna depot.
This, according to Erena, includes ensuring that all depots receive fair share of supply.
He also explained that with the close working relationship between the association and governments of Kebbi and Niger States, the joint efforts could yield positive results whereby the Minna depot can be flooded with enough petroleum products to check scarcity on a weekly basis.
“If the NNPC refineries in Kaduna and Warri are functional and all the depots receive even distribution of products, I see no reason why there will be scarcity of petroleum products,” the new IPMAN chairman said.
Erena said it is only the NNPC, a Federal Government agency, that is solely responsible for the supply of petroleum products besides some private depots operators who are licensed by the same agency, expressing optimism that the issue of scarcity will soon be a thing of the past with improved supply of petroleum products.
Others that emerged during the election, which turned out unopposed for the contestants, included Alhaji bello Maidamma Yauri, Vice Chairman; Murtala Maisalla Jega, Secretary; Umar Salihu Koko, Treasurer; and Kasim Sanusi, Financial Secretary.
