More details have emerged on how operatives of the Department of State Services and Nigeria Police nabbed self-acclaimed Eze Igbo of Ajao Estate, Lagos State, Chief Fredrick Nwajagu.
The embattled Eze Igbo had said in a viral video he will invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra to Lagos.
Nwajagu said the IPOB members will protect the businesses of Igbo people in Lagos from attacks.
He said: “We must have our security so that they will stop attacking us at midnight, in the morning and the afternoon.
“When they discover that we have our security, they will think twice before attacking us.
“I am not saying a single word to be hidden.”
But by the time operatives of the DSS and Police stormed his palace, Nwajagu had fled.
Acting on intelligence, however, the operatives traced him to a hotel in Ejigbo, where he was arrested at about 1am.
The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this on Saturday.
Hundeyin said: “The operation was carried out at midnight.
“The security operatives didn’t meet him in his palace, but we found out through intelligence gathering that he had lodged in a hotel in Ejigbo.
“He was traced to the location and arrested around 1am.
“He is currently in the DSS custody where he is being investigated.”
