The Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute on Friday said it would deepen effort toward using Nigerian construction as a tool to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The NBRRI Director General, Prof. Danladi Matawal, made the known when he addressed journalists on the forthcoming 2018 NBRRI International Conference.
According to him, such efforts will fast track sustainability in promoting standard of infrastructure in the country.
Matawal said: “This year, the institute has decided to focus on achieving the SDGs using the Nigerian construction as a tool to addressing critical issues and challenges in the industries.
“Also to proffer solutions that will enhance performance, relevance, innovativeness and drive a robust environment to enhance sustainability in the built environment with emphasis on town/ regional planning, housing/ building and infrastructure.”
According to him, the forthcoming conference will provide an avenue for all key stakeholders to review impact of the present construction materials/methods on environment and proffer actionable framework for implementation of SDGs in construction industries.
He said the theme of the three-day conference that would commence on June 12, would be “Sustainable Development Goals and the Nigerian Construction Industry- Challenges and the Way forward”.
Matawal said sub themes of the event would be “Environmental Sustainability and the Built Environment; Policy, Ethics and Standards; Community Driven and Heavy Construction Technologies.
He said others are “Disaster Resilient Construction Methods” and “Architecture and Modular Construction Technologies for Accelerated Housing Delivery”.
Amaechi said: “The 2017 theme focused on increased local content to achieve cost effective building and road infrastructure in Nigeria.”
