There was pandemonium at the Ikotun area of Lagos State on Monday when policemen, who were allegedly attached to Ikotun Police Station, shot and killed a yet-to-be-identified man who sells and owns an Indian hemp joint around the area.
It was gathered that the policemen, who were on a raid at the Indian hemp joint, had attempted to arrest some of the young men found smoking Indian hemp in the joint.
Trouble however started when the young men resisted the attempted arrest by the policemen.
Sources said one of the policemen allegedly opened fire on the smokers.
The owner of the Indian hemp joint, who was there to wade into the crisis, was hit by the bullet from the shot and was said to have died on the spot.
The death of the owner of the Indian hemp joint angered the youths in the area and they attempted to set Ikotun Police Station ablaze.
It was further gathered that a massive re-enforcement from other police stations around the area repelled the attempt by the youths to set the police station ablaze.
One of the residents of the area said they all scampered for safety when they heard series of gun shots around their area.
She said: “We didn’t know what was happening at first but we were hearing gun shots.
“We later heard that one of the policemen in this area shot a man and that the hoodlums in a reprisal shot and killed the policeman too.”
