The Nigerian Hunters Council has intensified capacity training exercises for 690 members in order to ensure effective security of lives and property in all rural communities in the North West.
The Commandant General of the council, Ambassador Joshua Adewale, disclosed this to newsmen in Dutse, Jigawa State.
He said the training was to upgrade the capacity of the participants to provide effective security to their communities.
Adewale, represented by his Deputy, Sunday Akpa, said participants were drawn from Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Jigawa States.
The training, he said, was conducted in collaboration with the Police, Department for State Services, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps and Ministry of Justice.
He said: “Hunters are the jungle masters.
“Every hunter knows the nooks and crannies of their forest and jungle.
“Kidnappers don’t kidnap people and take them home.
“They kidnap people and take them to the bush.
“So training is necessary because the operations of the bandits are always in the bush and hunters are the grandmasters of the bush.”
Adewale urged all hunters to imbibe the culture of discipline, integrity and endurance in order to excel.
Also speaking, Sale Umar, the hunters Commandant in Jigawa State, thanked Governor Muhammad Badaru and traditional rulers in the state for their support to the council.
NAN reports that the training focused on the role of hunters in community policing, crime scene management and preservation, intelligence gathering and proper information dissemination.
It also focused on prevention of miscreants moving across borders, basic law and fundamental human rights, as well as discipline, disciplinary procedures, code of conduct and traffic duties.
