Chief Musa Isewele, the President of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, has urged the Federal Government to enforce total emergency rule in some parts of the northern states to curb insecurity.
Isewele gave the advice in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday.
He said that unless a drastic measure was taken in the states, Nigeria would continue to lose more lives to the Boko Haram insurgents.
He said: “The Federal Government should look into the insecurity in those states and give 100 per cent attention.
“The emergency rule must be 100 per cent and total because the people know some of the members of this Boko Haram.
“They are not ghosts so I will say that government should remove the governors, the state assemblies and impose military rule.
“It’s obvious that the governments of these states are not ready to fight for their people.
“I am sure if those people are no longer there, the killings and violence will stop.”
Isewele said the time had come for government to take proactive measures to restore peace and security to the people.
Commenting on the Nyanya explosion, the union boss said it was time for government to introduce modern motor parks in the country.
He said that RTEAN had called for decent, organised and modern parks where vehicles going in and out would be registered and monitored.
He said: “Let government support trade unions under Private Partnership Agreement to build modernised motor parks.
“Just as it’s being operated in South Africa, it will have a police post, hospital, hotels and digital monitoring equipment that can detect any bomb.
“Apart from strengthening security, it will also create more jobs for Nigerians.”
Isewele condemned the killings of innocent people in Nyanya.
He also condemned the long queues on the route due to the ongoing stop and search by the military.
He said the situation might worsen the already tensed security as anyone could take advantage to attack.
He suggested that the road block should be spread to various routes leading to Nyanya-Keffi Road.
Isewele said if everyone was alert, the explosion would not have occurred.
He called on the security agencies to remain alert about the increasing insecurity in the states.
He also called for more recruitment into the country’s security organisations.
Isewele said the union had called for emergency meeting on security with all members to discuss the need for security consciousness at the parks.
He said this was no time to be caught unawares like the Nyanya Park incident.
Isewele said the park should be relocated to a safer place and not under the bridge.
