Following the recent inferno that touched the school, Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu has donated sum of N1 million to the students of Asma’u Government Girls’ College, Kamba, in Dandi Local Government Area, to take care of their immediate needs.
The Governor made the announcement during a sympathy visit to the college, to commiserate with students, staff and management of the college.
Bagudu also pledged to reconstruct and upgrade Nana Asma’u Government Girls’ College, Kamba in Dandi Local Government Area in order for it to be offering entrepreneurship skills.
Recall that one of the students’ hostels was gutted by fire last week Monday, an accident that led to the destruction of the entire structure as well as students’ belongings.
The Governor said: “The State Government in collaboration with World Bank is fully determined to fully equip and upgrade the school with all the necessary learning and entrepreneurship equipment through a program called: ”Adolescent Girls Initiative (AGILE).
”This initiative will be very important to you in life even after graduation or when you get married.”
Bagudu assured the students that the repair works and reconstruction of the school would start soon.
”I am here with my entourage to sympathise with you over the unfortunate fire incident.
”I wish to thank the Principal, teachers, Sarkin Shiko, the security agencies and all the good samaritans who came and assisted you during the trying period.
”I went round the damaged hostel which was gutted by fire and saw the level of destruction of the entire building and I equally saw your burnt properties.
”Government will start work this week to repair and reconstruct all the affected buildings in your school,” he assured.
Bagudu charged the students to remain focused in their studies, work together and always uphold the spirit of patriotism and discipline towards building a brighter future.
He directed that tailors engaged to sew new clothes for the students should hasten their work.
Earlier, the school Principal, Hajiya Saadatu Ahmad and the Head Girl, Habiba Mamuda, commended the governor for the immediate distribution of relief assistance to the affected students.
The head girl particularly requested the governor to assist them by providing learning materials such as books, writing pens, as well as new socks and sandals in view of the losses they suffered in the fire.
