The Independent National Electoral Commission has insisted that the All Progressives Congress has no candidate for Yobe North and Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial Districts.
The commission repeated its stand on Sunday during an interview on Channels TV by one of its top officials.
INEC spokes through its National Commission and Chairman on Information and Voter education, Festus Okoye.
Recall that there has been controversy over candidates for the two senatorial districts.
While the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, is battling to get the party’s ticket for Yobe North Senatorial District after losing the APC presidential primaries, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and former Minister, Godswill Akpabio, is contending with a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ekpo Ekpoudom, fir the Akwa Ibom North West ticket, also after bowing out of the presidential primaries.
Okoye told Politics Today, a programme on Channels TV: “In these two constituencies, two names were forwarded and the commission made a determination that the names were not persons who emerged from a validly conducted party primaries and we did not publish their names.
“That is where we are.
“Their (Lawan and Akpabio) names were uploaded by the APC to our candidates’ nomination portal, but the Commission made a determination that they were not the candidates that emerged from valid party primaries.
“The commission did not publish their names and their particulars in their constituencies.
“So, the implication is that as of today, the APC does not have candidates in those two constituencies.”
