The Independent National Electoral Commission said on Thursday that it had distributed about 1.4 million Permanent Voter Cards in Borno State as part of preparations for this month’s elections.
Tommy Magbuin, the INEC’s Public Affairs Officer in the state, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri.
Magbuin said the number represented about 70 per cent of the estimated two million registered voters in the state.
He said about 152,000 PVCs were still unclaimed at the INEC office in the state.
He said: “We have so far distributed about 1.4 million PVCs to registered voters in the state.
“This represents about 70 per cent of the two million voters registered.
“We also have about 152,000 unclaimed PVCs waiting to be collected at our offices.”
Magbuin said the commission had recorded tremendous successes in its quest to conduct a hitch-free poll in the state.
He said: “We are still awaiting the PVCs for some areas in Maiduguri and Jere Local Government Area.
“The cards are expected to arrive any moment from Abuja as our vehicles are already waiting to bring them to Maiduguri as soon as they arrived.”
