The Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday posted the notice of the verification of signatures for the recall of the representative of Kogi West Senatorial district, Dino Melaye.
The move is coming in spite of a court ruling ordering all parties to the dispute to maintain “status quo”.
It also came on a day Melaye’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, said the court ruling had been served on INEC.
According to the notice posted at INEC’s office in Lokoja, Kogi State, the verification would hold across all polling units in the senatorial district on August 19.
As part of the recall process, petitioners had submitted the details of 188,588 registered voters in Kogi West Senatorial District, who signed the petition.
The District has 360,098 registered voters.
Justice John Tsoho of a Federal High Court in Abuja had on Friday asked INEC and Melaye to maintain “status quo” pending the hearing of a motion filed by the embattled lawmaker seeking an interlocutory injunction.
