The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Special Fraud Unit, Tunde Ogunsakin, has described as worrisome the increasing fraud in most of the banks in Nigeria.
Ogunsakin said most of the fraud, especially those related to the auto teller machine, will not succeed without the connivance of insiders.
Ogunsakin spoke at a workshop on how to check bank frauds.
He said: “ATM fraud cannot be successful without insiders’ connection.
“Customers go to some banks with their ATM cards, but they cannot withdraw money as their cards will be held up in the machine.
“We discovered that some bank officials, in collaboration some officials in the telecommunications unit, use such operations to defraud customers with the ATM cards.
“Some bankers also advised fraud partners to clone title documents in order to secure bank loans.
“Any Nigerian or person, who discovered that his ATM had been tampered with, should immediately report to the SFU.
