A Nigerian lady based in the United Kingdom stole the limelight during the week by posting a video urging Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and other Nigerian pastors to stop collecting money from people in the name of God.
The video has been widely shared by many platforms because it challenges fundamental pentecostal practices.
On one platform alone, Gossip Mill Nigeria, the video has had close to one million views by Saturday noon.
The immediate trigger for the unidentified woman’s anger was the financial problem being faced by her younger sister.
She had helped the sister to start a business in Nigeria.
And the sister, a member of the RCCG, had given all her profit to the church.
Thereafter, the sister asked the older sister to send another money.
The UK-based Nigerian lady, who remembered that her sister had given money to the church in the past, asked the sister to seek the church’s help, after all life is sometimes a quid-pro-quo.
When the church was not willing to help, she took her case to the social media, where the church has been under a lacerating scrutiny since August 3 when the video hit the waves.
Lady Jizzy Od in a Facebook reaction says: “Pastors are not Jesus Christ, remember if Jesus can be kill , they can be killed as well , In fact somebody like you can gun them down , is your sis that have to use her sense. They did not force anyone and if you are not comfortable with their message stop going the church.”
Stevoo Amanambu says: “Pastor with bodyguard is not man of God is a criminal, Christ did not work with bodyguard.”
Another Nigerian, Christiana Iyabode Caleb, writes: “Exodus 34.26 go and check and stop talking shit not by force.”
Abi Blessing Abile has a different view: “Madam it’s called first fruit. If you can’t help her u can simply say u can’t.no need for all this plenty talk..i know ur angry because she gave out her profit but there was no need for this. Na she no use her head well, meanwhile nobody point her gun to sow stop calling d man of God ND warm ur sister.”
The debate is still raging.
