The Hon. Jasper Ndubuaku-led Imo State Committee on Recovery of Moveable Assets Belonging to the State Government, acting on a top off, discovered a massive warehouse along Aba Road in Owerri, the State capital, which belongs to Nkechi, the wife of the immediate past Governor of the State, Rochas Okorocha, in which several properties belonging to the State Government were hidden.
The discovery was made on Thursday, with Ndubuaku, a two-time lawmaker in the Imo State House of Assembly, leading members of the committee and security operatives to the warehouse for the recovery of the property.
However, on a day when operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission also visited a school owned by Okorocha in Owerri, workers and security operatives at the warehouse challenged Ndubuaku and his team, a development that almost led to an exchange.
It took the intervention of the Commissioner, Imo State Police Command, Dasuki Galadanchi, to bring the situation under control.
Galadanchi, who ensured that inventory was taken of the properties, took them eventually to the Command Headquarters of the Police in Owerri.
Some of the items recovered included office equipment, furniture, school bags, seats, kitchen appliances and big generators.
Ndubuaku told newsmen that the Committee acted on a tip-off backed by a court order to search and recover the alleged looted government properties.
He said on their arrival, the ex-governor’s daughter with some security personnel tried to stop them.
He said they had to have their way because they had a court order backing their action.
Thereafter, the opening of the warehouses and containers were done under the supervision of both parties, with security men, including Galadanchi, and journalists observing the process.
At the school, contrary to the c claim by Okorocha, the EFCC operatives did not harass students.
Indeed, the head of the school, who appeared in a video, saw off the EFCC team to their vehicles.
