The Ijaw Youths Council says President Goodluck Jonathan has a constitutional right to contest the 2015 election.
The IYC National President, Udengs Eradiri, said this in Abuja on Wednesday during a courtesy visit on the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Kingsley Kuku.
Eradiri reiterated the council’s support to ensure Jonathan won election for second term.
He said: “The 2015 election is just by the corner.
“The IYC is mobilising itself to partake in that process properly to support the president.
“Because we believe that the president has a constitutional right to contest for a second term.”
According to him, the council has unanimously agreed that the president will contest the next election.
Eradiri said: “We believe that the work of the president is in itself a manifesto that will convince other parts of the country to vote for him.
“So the IYC is setting up its machineries.
“We will begin to articulate the 2015 election with other ethnic nationalities to ensure victory for the president.”
He commended President Jonathan for his bold initiative to organise the ongoing national dialogue, saying that it would go a long way in addressing national issues.
Eradiri also pledge the council’s partnership with the office of special adviser on Niger Delta Affairs to ensure that the amnesty programme succeeded.
He appealed to the multinational oil companies and state governments to complement the efforts of the amnesty office to ensure peace and development in the area.
Responding, Kuku, who thanked the council members, said his office would partner and support it in the areas of peace and development of the region.
