Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho believes he enjoyed a ‘very good’ pre-season with the club.
Iheanacho, 18, scored in City’s 4-2 defeat at Stuttgart on Saturday and could feature prominently in the new season now Stevan Jovetic has joined Internazionale.
Edin Dzeko, who also scored in Germany, is on the verge of completing his move to Roma too, which would see Iheanacho move behind Wilfried Bony in Manuel Pellegrini’s pecking order up front.
And the Nigerian oozed confidence despite the defeat in the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
“I thank God for my performance, it’s a very good performance in pre-season,” he told City TV.
“We’ve played six games, I’ve played in five games and I have two goals and two assists, so it’s a very good performance for me and I’m happy with the performance.”
City were 4-0 down within 37 minutes against the Bundesliga’s 14th-best side last season and did not register on the score sheet until Iheanacho struck in the 84th minute.
And the teenager offered no excuses for a demoralising display.
“It’s a tough game against a strong team, so it was a very difficult game but we shouldn’t have lost,” he stressed.
“Because we are the big team, quality players are playing but it’s the game, you can lose or win.”
Iheanacho insisted, despite the setback, City were ready for their Premier League opener at West Brom a week on Monday and was content with his own performance.
“I composed myself, I scored the goal, we needed more goals in the second-half but we couldn’t score as much,” he added.
“But I was happy to score in this game.”
