Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo may have ordered the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, to conduct thorough investigation into the fracas that occurred at the National Assembly on Thursday.
The IGP was summoned to the Presidential Villa on Friday and met with the Vice President for about an hour.
After the meeting, which was held behind closed doors, the IGP interacted briefly with State House correspondents.
Asked who directed the blockade of the National Assembly gate by policemen, Abba said: “Who did what and who didn’t do what will be disclosed to you later.
“You know we work with investigations.
“Investigations are going on and the press officer will address you.”
Also asked if he was aware of the operation, Abba said: “I still repeat who did what, who didn’t do what you will hear later, is subject to investigations.
“We just don’t talk anyhow.”
Meanwhile, Abba did not honour the invitation of the House of Representatives, but sent a Deputy Inspector General, S. L. Wakama, to represent him.
Abba had been summoned by the House to explain the reason behind the blockade of the National Assembly on Thursday.
The IGP’s letter, addressed to the Chairman of the Committee and signed by a Principal Staff Officer, CP Austin Iwar, reads: “I am directed to inform you that due to exigencies of duty, the IGP will not be able to appear before the House.
“Meanwhile, he has directed the DIG Operations to represent him.”
After the letter was read, the committee insisted that the IGP must appear in person to explain the action of the police.
