The national leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has assured its members across the country that the recent actions by the leadership were not aimed at witch-hunting any member, but to instill discipline.
According to the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, the PDP was mindful of the concern of members, assuring them that all issues would be resolved amicably in due course.
The party had recently suspended two state governors, Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State.
While Amaechi was suspended by the party for allegedly refusing to restore back to office the officials of a local government council suspended by the state House of Assembly, Wamakko was accused of spurning the call of the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, to appear before the National Working Committee.
But Metuh said these and other cases are to instill disciple in the party.
He said the members of the party should ignore those lambasting the party as they were envious enemies.
Metuh said in a statement on Sunday: “The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hereby assures all members that the happenings in the party in the last few weeks are part of the processes of instilling discipline within the Party and not to witch-hunt any member whatsoever.
“The Party is not unmindful of the feelings of members hence the need for this clarification. We assure that all the issues will be looked into and resolved amicably in line with the spirit of brotherliness and the guiding principles of our Party.
“The PDP remains a strong, united and democratic family guided by the principles of equity, justice, rule of law and love for one another and will at the end of the day definitely come out stronger than ever
before.”
Chief Metuh also called on all members “to close ranks and totally disregard suggestions from envious enemies of our family that some individuals or groups are being targeted for certain reasons.
“We assure all members that the PDP remains the only national party committed to the welfare of the people for which it will continue to win elections across board.
“It will continue to exist as the party with structures in all wards, local governments and states in the federation where all are free to air their views and canvass their opinions.”
