Odion Ighalo has aimed for a promotion-winning campaign with Watford after joining the Championship club on loan for the season.
The 25-year-old striker, who completed his move to the Hornets on Tuesday, has spent most of the past five years with Spanish side, Granada, helping them rise from the third division to La Liga in successive seasons between 2009 and 2011 and is owned by Italian outfit, Udinese.
Both of those clubs are controlled by the Pozzo family, who are also Watford’s benefactors, and that connection has enabled Ighalo to follow events at Vicarage Road closely as he looks to achieve his ambition of playing in the Premier League.
“My target has always been to play in the Premier League someday and I am confident of fulfilling that ambition with Watford,” the Nigerian told the BBC.
He added: “I have quietly followed Watford’s quest for a Premier League promotion ticket in the last couple of years because it’s the same owner as Granada and Udinese, so the project here is crystal clear.
“I hope to create history with this club and I already have the motivation to do that.
“As a professional footballer I know what is expected of me and I hope to give my best to the team.”
Ighalo is the ninth signing made this summer by manager Giuseppe Sannino, who had previously added Heurelho Gomes, Gabriel Tamas, Lloyd Dyer, Craig Cathcart, Matej Vydra, Daniel Toszer, Juan Carlos Paredes and Keith Andrews to his 2014-15 squad.
