The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Friday redeployed the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Dandauta Mustapha, and two others.
The redeployment and replacement of the CP, which comes on the heels of the face-off between the Federal Government and the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, was contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Frank Mba.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, had accused Mustapha of acting contrary to the interest of the country in going with Wike to the airstrip of the Nigeria Air Force in Port Harcourt to arrest the two pilots of a flight operated by Caverton Helicopters into the state during a lockdown announced by the state government to curb the spread of Coronavirus Disease.
In Mustapha’s place, Adamu has appointed CP Joseph Mukan as the head of the Rivers State Police Command.
Mustapha is now the CP Provost, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The third positing announced on Friday by Mba was that of Musa Adze as the CP Anti-Fraud Unit.
Mba added in the statement: “The IGP charges the affected Commissioners of Police to diligently and professionally discharge their duties in their new areas of responsibilities.
“The posting and the redeployment of the affected Senior Police Officers is with immediate effect.”
