Brown Ideye’s header eight minutes from time has given West Bromwich Albion victory in their pre-season friendly against Charleston Battery.
The Baggies, who open their Premier League campaign against Manchester City next month, almost took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes at the Blackbaud Stadium when Craig Dawson headed narrowly over from close range.
James McLean also flashed a shot wide on the half-hour mark as the Black Country outfit tried to forge a first-half lead.
Their breakthrough came three minutes before the interval when Berahino exchanged passes with strike partner Victor Anichebe before slotting his effort inside the right post.
West Brom’s lead was cancelled out on 57 minutes when Jamaican Navion Boyd lashed in a shot from the edge of the area for the United Soccer League side.
However, the visitors secured victory in South Carolina when Ideye headed home from Craig Gardner’s cross.
